What are Chakras?
By origin, a chakra is a sanskrit word that means “wheel of light.” These chakras are known to be the psychic centers of the human body and they are located along the axis of the spine. Basically, these chakras function to vitalize the physical body and bring about the development of a person’s self-consciousness. They are also known as the portals that allow auric energy to circulate all throughout the body.
The 7 Key Chakras and Their Importance
There are seven main psychic chakras. Each of these look like small energy balls and they come in different colors. Every chakra has a specific function or relevance to a person’s physical, mental, and emotional interactions.
MULADHARA
Muladhara or the root chakra, is the first psychic chakra. The muladhara is red in color and it is located at the base of the spine. This chakra connects us to the physical world. On a spiritual level, the root chakra is associated with the desire to guard one’s individual integrity. It is a psychic energy source that grants a solid foundation in order to move to higher awareness.
SWADHISTHAMA
The second psychic chakra is also known as the sacral chakra. Located somewhere near the lower abdomen, this orangey colored psychic energy center is the point of emotional connection.
MANIPURA
The solar plexus chakra or Manipura is the third psychic energy source of the human body. This yellowish ball of energy is the main source for the mental understanding of emotional life, and it is said to be responsible for giving a person the sense of identity.
ANAHATA
The heart chakra is the fourth key psychic center of the human body. Being the psychic love center of an individual, Anahata is all about emotional empowerment. This psychic energy ball can usually appear pinkish or greenish in color, and it is located at the center of the chest.
VISHUDDHA
The fifth chakra, Vishuddham is also known as the throat chakra. Typically bluish in color, it symbolizes a person’s “will center” and is also associated with one’s creativity and self-expression.
AJNA
The sixth major psychic chakra is also known as the third eye chakra. Ajna is the psychic mind center and is indigo colored. Located at the center of the forehead, it is connected with a person’s intelligence and psychic power.
SAHASRARA
Completing the list of the seven major chakras is the crown chakra. Appearing either white or violet in color, it is located on top of the head; it is known as the body’s primary coordination center and the connection to one’s spirituality.
